DO YOUR HAIR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU GO TO THE SALON!

To get the look you want at the salon I advise you do some homework to help your stylists…

1. What hair type do you have? Be ready to tell your stylist about any problems you are having, this will help them work out your hair type.

2. Choose a hairstyle to fit your lifestyle. How much time and money can you devote to looking after your hair? Gym rats and bunnies need low maintenance styles and colour needs maintenance in the salon – which can be pricey.

3. Is my hair long enough for the style I want? This really important, you must be realistic. For an instant transformation from medium to long you are talking extensions.

4. What about a fringe? There is literally a fringe to suit all face shapes – your stylist will advise.

5. Should I go short? Always a fab choice, especially if you have small features. saves time on styling in the morning too.

6. What about layers? Your stylist can use layers to add movement to fine hair, to frame your face or to thin out thick hair to make it easier to style.

7. I’ve got curls! Find a stylist who knows how to cut curls as they can be tricky.

8. What skin tone do I have? If you are thinking about colour, consider your skin tone. Does it suit cool colours or warm colours? Discuss with your colourist to get the hair colour that suits your skin tone best.

9. I’d like to go back to natural looking hair colour. To do this, I recommend changing subtly. Keep close to your natural hair colour. Highlights and lowlights can help.

10. I’d like a bright flash of colour. If you have dark hair and want a bold, bright flash of colour, you’ll need the section to be bleached first.

11. What about shinier hair! For shiny hair go for an all over semi-permanent tone or ask for a deep conditioning treatment  and apply it weekly.

12. Should I try something really wacky! Well I would but remember, a big change may need new make up and a new wardrobe to bring it off!

Final word…always make sure you have an in depth consultation with your hairdresser before you commit to anything new. In fact you should always have a proper consultation before every appointment!
