Himba hairstyles!
A few years’ ago I travelled around Namibia and encountered a group of Himba women in the town of Swakopmund, someway south of their homeland in Damaraland. I was blown away by their hair and this memory came back to me whilst I was preparing my mood board for this shoot earlier this year (2025). A Himda woman’s hair is everything. It is unique and awesome. The Himba’s ideal of beauty is inspired by the orange and red glow of the earth, something synonymous with the African continent and the lifeblood of all.
For Himba women Hair is Power!
To create the looks, I combined intricate braiding techniques with strong shapes. I was influenced by Mocha Mousse, a neutral colour that elevates brown from earthy to luxurious which matches the stunning beauty of the Namib Desert and the Skeleton Coast. Do have a look at my 2025 Mood Board
