Anne Veck Oxford wins Best Green Salon award!

ANNE VECK OXFORD WINS BEST GREEN SALON AWARD 2017

Anne Veck Oxford scooped the Best Green Salon Award at the Salon Business Awards 2017 on Monday night 26th June.

We joined over 200 guests at the elite Century Club, in the heart of Soho on London’s Shaftesbury Avenue for the presentation.

This followed months of anticipation after Keith submitted an online entry for the judging panel, which included award-winning hairdressers Errol Douglas and Barrie Stephen.

Anne Veck Limited Director Keith Mellen said of the win: “ I was surprised and of course thrilled that we won. I’m familiar with one or two of the other finalists who I knew were paragons of sustainable best practice so I didn’t expect us to win! With hindsight, I think the judges must have liked our achievements in reducing energy use and carbon emissions by around 50% and maybe also how we are on a journey towards zero carbon emissions which is very challenging!”

Here’s Anne posing with our sexy BlueGen ceramic fuel cell which generates electricity from our gas supply at an amaxing 75% efficiency rate ( compared with 35-40% in a poer station). Hence reduction in carbon footprint & energy consumtion. Plus the usual LED lighting, water saving, recycling and other eco actions!

With canapés and an abundance of aperitifs on offer on the exclusive rooftop terrace, the finalists were in good spirits to celebrate the most outstanding business models, stunning salon design, first class education, strong team work and much more over the past 12 months.

As the sun went down, guests were invited downstairs to the Green Room where exposed brick walls, decorative lighting and solid wood floors created a warming atmosphere.

It was here that Joanne Charlton, Publishing Editor of Salon Business, introduced the awards to an excitable crowd, eager to hear who had wowed the judges.

Each and every finalist helped to make the awards what they are today, ensuring the bar is raised year upon year. They certainly gave the judges a tough job, and now it is time to announce the awards,” said Joanne.

Speaking after the awards Joanne said: “It was a huge success and a great atmosphere. There was a great blend of networking with fellow peers, having fun and of course celebrating the winners – all of whom were truly deserving with phenomenal entries of an extremely high standard. We hope to see them and the finalists back next year along with a host of new entries.”

Salon Business would like to thank their esteemed panel of industry professionals who judged the awards, including sponsors TIGI, Paul Mitchell, milk_shake, Eco Hair and Beauty, Remi Cachet and Maletti, many of whom who have supported us from the beginning.

Final comment from Keith, “The Green Salon Award was sponsored by Eco Hair and Beauty, based at Southampton University and it was fascinating to catch up with Denise and Shirley from the project. I’m sure we’ll be co-operating further in the future to spread the word across the industry about the benefits of environmental best practice.”

And, why, you ask, was Anne Veck not there? Well, poor old Anne was forced to attend Revlon Professional / Creative HEAD magazine’s amazing Artistic event over in Shoreditch on the same evening. Featuring our very own Emmanuel Esteban , this event explored the premise that hairdressing is art. Check out Facebook for some great coverage.
